How to Choose a Panel Physician for my Immigration Medical Exam

Oct 26, 2021

The Immigration Medical Exam is a very important part of the immigration process and is a requirement for anyone applying for permanent residency. Only an approved panel physician by Immigration Refugee & Citizenship Canada (IRCC) can conduct  Immigration Medical Exams.

To find a Panel Physician, visit the Canada Immigration & Citizenship website (CIC):

https://secure.cic.gc.ca/pp-md/pp-list.aspx

then select country (i.e. Canada) and province (i.e. Ontario), then you will see a long list of panel physicians who practice in different cities. Please note you don’t necessarily have to schedule your medical exam with a panel physician who is located near your house. For example, if you live in Cambridge but work in Oakville and prefer to go to a panel physician in Oakville before or after your work, you can do that. In fact, if you live in Canada, you are allowed to go to any panel physician anywhere in Canada to complete your medical exam. Once you access a full list of panel physicians, you can go to their websites to find more information about their location, availability, prices and their Google Review ratings.

Most panel physicians post their fees and prices on their websites. If you can’t find their fees, feel free to call them. Some clinics post all inclusive fees, whereas other clinics may post prices of each test separately. For example, a clinic may post one fee for a physical medical exam, and another fee for blood and urine tests. Be sure to ask for total fees for all tests in order to make a fair comparison between fees of different clinics. Fees also depend on age of clients. Because younger clients (i.e. age 0-14 years old) need fewer tests, their medical fees are lower than older clients (i.e. age 15 or higher) who will require all tests.

Another very important factor for selecting a panel physician is the rating of their overall service. There is no central website to check the service ratings of all panel physicians. One way to compare service ratings of every panel physician is to check their Google Review. Google Reviews by past clients provide valuable information of what levels of service you may expect and may  experience when you visit that clinic.

Another important factor to consider when picking a panel physician is their availability. If you need an urgent immigration medical exam, check a clinic’s availability by going to their website and see their earliest online appointment, or call them to inquire of their earliest availability.

In addition to factors mentioned above, some female clients may prefer to be examined by a female panel physician. In that case, find female panel physicians from the CIC website provided above. If you are not sure if a clinic has a female panel physician, feel free to call the clinic.
